Guyana’s Revised draft Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) 2021-2027
(Paris Agreement of the United National Framework Convention on Climate Change)
Public Release for Comment and Feedback
In the Paris Accord of 2015, Parties to the UNFCCC agreed to submit Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). Through their NDCs, Parties are expected to submit to the UNFCCC a summary of national commitments to help to mitigate global warming and climate change, and adapt to its consequences.
As a Party to the UNFCCC, Guyana prepared an intended NDC in 2015, and submitted its first NDC to the UNFCCC in 2016.
In accordance with commitments under the UNFCCC, the Government of Guyana started to revise and update the NDC in 2021, and included its measures in the draft LCDS 2030 which encompassed all areas of Guyana’s low carbon development. Guyana’s LCDS 2030, inclusive of the NDC elements, was launched in October 2021 and then was subject to a seven-month national consultation up to July 2022. At the end of the consultation, comments and feedback were incorporated into the final LCDS 2030, which was approved by its Multi-Stakeholder Steering Committee (MSSC), endorsed by the National Toshaos’ Council (NTC) and approved through a vote in the National Assembly. The draft NDC was revised to incorporate the updated Strategy.

This commenting period is open until 29th September, 2023. The revised version of the NDC, which will take into consideration comments received, will be submitted to the UNFCCC thereafter.
