The 8th meeting of the MSSC for LCDS 2030 was held on 23 April 2024 at Office of the President where the following were discussed: projects implementation; carbon credits verification and validation process; and upcoming activities.
MSSC Members were updated that Guyana had strong representation at the Conference of Parties (COP 28). Dubai, December 2023 and hosted a Guyana Country event. Learning visits for carbon credit funded projects were completed for twenty-four (24) communities; the Chairman, MSSC, recommended publicizing the project dashboards developed for the ten villages.
Members were informed that LCDS awareness sessions were conducted in schools; and a private sector
engagement on recent LCDS developments is being planned; The National Toshaos Council (NTC) reported that progress was seen in setting up the Village Sustainability Plan (VSP) Unit funded by the USD 3 Million project under the Guyana-Norway Agreement (2009); staff are expected to be hired by the end of June; and work plans, and budgets are being developed.
NTC is assisting Indigenous communities to develop 2024 Village Plans and to support their engagement in the National Carbon Credits Programme; many villages have already submitted same. NTC noted the major transformation in Indigenous communities as they implement priority activities as part of village plans.
