Guyana is among 10 countries that will be benefitting from a climate change adaptation programme that will be funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

The agency, in collaboration with the Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre (CCCCC) is financing the programme that seeks to tackle climate change challenges in Eastern and Southern Caribbean countries.

Head of the Office of Climate Change, Janelle Christian told the Government Information Agency (GINA) that in January, consultation meetings were hosted to discuss the way forward for Guyana with agencies from the agricultural sector, development partners, Civil Defence Commission (CDC) and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs).

Guyana will participate in fourth board meeting of Japan Caribbean Climate Change Partnership Project (JCCCP) at the invitation of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) which will be held in Jamaica from February 1- 2 2017. This was stated by Minister of Natural Resources, Raphael Trotman today at post Cabinet press briefing at the Ministry of the Presidency.

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is assisting Guyana to build technical capacity to meet and sustain its obligations under the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (UNCBD), the UN Convention to Combat Desertification and Drought (UNCCD) and, the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

The UNDP had its first meeting yesterday with stakeholders in the environmental sector and focal point representatives of these conventions to outline the project. The project launch was held at the UNDP’s Brickdam office in Georgetown.

Georgetown, Guyana – (April 28, 2016) Mr. Remi Rijs, an International Consultant attached to the Global Environment Facility (GEF), today, paid a courtesy call on Minister of State, Mr. Joseph Harmon at his Ministry of the Presidency office.

Minister Harmon is the political focal point (PFP) to the GEF. That facility has responsibility for the GEF 6 (Guyana STAR) Project, which is aimed at assisting Guyana in meeting its Climate Change obligations under the United Nations Convention on Climate Change.

THE Office of Climate Change (OCC), with support from the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), yesterday, hosted a national stakeholders’ consultation for stocktaking assessment and preparation for the project implementation plan for Guyana’s Third National Communications (TNC) under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
