The Iwokrama International Centre (IIC) for Rainforest Conservation and Development, with support from the Government of Guyana and the Ministry of Education, recently embarked on a series of climate change awareness workshops in secondary schools along the coast.
Georgetown, Guyana – (January 4, 2016) As Guyana continues to advance towards the development of a ‘green’ economy, President David Granger, this morning, said that the country looks to the People’s Republic of China for cooperation and assistance as that country shares similar sustainable development goals. The President made these remarks at an Accreditation Ceremony at State House, where Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Guyana, Mr. Cui Jianchun presented his Letters of Credence.
China is currently pursuing its thirteenth Five-year Plan (2016-2020), which is aimed at the development of a ‘green’ economy by introducing ‘green’ low-carbon series of industries; expanding sustainable energy sources; extending forest protection and establishing a ‘green’ development fund. President Granger said that the two countries are embarking a common path and as such, they can look to each other for cooperation and support.

Georgetown, Guyana – (December 23, 2016) Guyana’s long term energy plan for the transition to the increased use of renewable energy is expected to be presented to Cabinet by mid-January. Minister of Public Infrastructure, Mr. David Patterson, in an invited comment, earlier today, said that “final touches are being made to the draft document” and once Cabinet has had their input, it will be released to the wider public. He also noted that the Government is committed to exploring all avenues for the development of renewable energy in keeping with its ‘green’ development agenda.
