A team from Guyana will be travelling to Belgium to finalise negotiations on the European Union-Forest Law Enforcement Governance and Trade (EU-FLEGT) Voluntary Partnership Agreement (VPA). The VPA seeks to certify Guyana’s forest products for export to the EU.
Guyana will participate in fourth board meeting of Japan Caribbean Climate Change Partnership Project (JCCCP) at the invitation of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) which will be held in Jamaica from February 1- 2 2017. This was stated by Minister of Natural Resources, Raphael Trotman today at post Cabinet press briefing at the Ministry of the Presidency.
Georgetown, Guyana – (May 18, 2016) President David Granger, today, met with the Heads of the various agencies under the Ministry of Natural Resources, the Ministry of the Presidency and the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, which together have responsibilities for Guyana’s natural resources to assess Guyana’s preparedness for the transition to a ‘green’ economy.
The meeting, which was held at the Ministry of the Presidency, also provided those attending with an opportunity to discuss government’s ‘green’ development agenda and the involvement of these agencies in advancing that agenda towards the eventual goal of a national ‘Green Development Plan for Guyana.’
Minister of State, Mr. Joseph Harmon, Minister of Natural Resources, Mr. Raphael Trotman, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources, Mr. Joslyn McKenzie, Head of the Environmental Protection Agency, Dr. Indarjit Ramdass, Head of the Guyana Energy Agency, Dr. Mahendar Sharma, Chief Executive Officer of the Guyana Lands and Surveys Commission, Mr. Trevor Benn, Commissioner of the Guyana Forestry Commission, Mr. James Singh, Head of the Office of Climate Change, Ms. Janelle Christian, Chief Executive Officer of the Iwokrama International Centre for Rainforest Conservation and Development, Mr. Dane Gobin and Head of the Wildlife Management Authority, Ms. Alona Sankar, attended the meeting. Other representatives from the Project Management Unit, National Parks Commission, Protected Areas Commission and members from the Boards for the various agencies were also present.
Georgetown, Guyana ( June 10, 2016) – A delegation led by Minister of Natural Resources, Honourable Raphael Trotman heads to the Kingdom of Norway to attend the Oslo REDD Exchange 2016. The forum which is being held from June 14-15, 2016 will bring together high level representatives from around the world to exchange ideas, experiences and perspectives on how best to reduce deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries (REDD) to protect tropical forests. During the visit the team will also meet with Minister of Climate and Environment, Honourable Vidar Helgesen to discuss the Guyana/ Norway partnership, examine renewable project opportunities and explore avenues of support for the development of Guyana’s oil and gas sector. Minister Trotman will be accompanied by Chairman of the Guyana Forestry Commission (GFC) Ms. Jocelyn Dow and Head of Planning and Development Ms. Pradeepa Bholanath, Technical Officer of the Ministry of Natural Resources Ms. Teresa Gaime and Head of the Project Management Office (PMO) at Ministry of the Presidency, Mr. Marlon Bristol.
