Georgetown, Guyana – (October 1, 2016) President David Granger, today, pledged to ensure that Guyana becomes a leader in the fight against climate change and in the pursuit of ‘green’ and sustainable development, but this he said, can only be achieved if a concerted effort is taken by all citizens of the country.  Demonstrating that commitment, the President also used the opportunity to officially launch the Department of the Environment and introduce its Head, Mrs. Ndibi Schweirs. .

Guyana has lost more than US$18 million dollars under its Forest Protection Agreement with Norway inked in 2009.

Marlon Bristol, Head of the Project Management Unit of the Office of Climate Change (OCC), made the charge on Wednesday when he testified before the Standing Parliamentary Sectoral Committee on Natural Resources. He was among the many department heads to appear before the Committee with Minister of State, Joseph Harmon, and were grilled on the state of the GRIF-Funds.

Norwegian team meets with Minister Harmon

Georgetown, Guyana – (April 28, 2016) Minister of State, Mr. Joseph Harmon, today, received a courtesy call from a visiting Norwegian delegation here to meet with their counterpart agencies to discuss Guyana REDD+ Investment Fund (GRIF) projects at his office at the Ministry of the Presidency.
